All of us, from organizations to individuals, have a responsibility to take action when major issues arise that impact our communities, customers, and colleagues.
We and many others are troubled by Facebook’s failure to stop the spread of disinformation and hate speech on its platform. Facebook’s inaction has fueled violence and extremism across the world.
We ask Facebook to take responsibility. We and countless others want Facebook to move beyond piecemeal action and take decisive steps against the amplification of disinformation and hate speech on its platform.
We know Facebook has announced recent steps in this direction. We also know it is not enough.
For this reason, we will join other businesses in pausing all paid Facebook and Instagram advertising to “hit pause on hate.” We will suspend ads through the end of July. And whether we reengage will depend on Facebook’s response.
We have always pushed ourselves to do more and do better. Every company has a responsibility to join together against rising extremism and systemic racism in our country.
